During his career, he made a number of study trips in the different European countries and the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Paavo Myllyl\u00e4 conducted his military service in\u00a0 Air Force Academy in Kauhava in 1938<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2441\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/joutsiniemi.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/paavo.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[2217]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2441\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2441\" src=\"https:\/\/joutsiniemi.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/paavo-300x203.jpg\" alt=\"Paavo with his Messerschmit fighter\" width=\"300\" height=\"203\" srcset=\"https:\/\/joutsiniemi.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/paavo-300x203.jpg 300w, https:\/\/joutsiniemi.fi\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/paavo.jpg 726w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2441\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Paavo with his Messerschmit fighter<\/p><\/div>\n<p>and received pilot certificate\u00a0from reserve officer\u00a0course in 1939.<br \/>\nMilitary pilot certificate and the Finnish air sign, he\u00a0received July 24th 1940.<\/p>\n<p>During the Finnish Continuation War, he served as a fighter pilot in front squadron\u00a0very successfully throughout the war performing a total of 420 battle flights and shooting down 21 enemy fighters. As the only Finnish pilot Paavo Myllyl\u00e4 survived\u00a0 twice with parachute in the war. Military rank first lieutenant.<\/p>\n<p>Additional pictures are some of Paavo's war-time images. Finnish Air Force\u00a0symbol was\u00a0blue swastika. It was introduced at the time of the Finnish Civil War and was in use until 1945. The Swedish Count Eric von Rosen donated\u00a0whites (other party of the Civil War) an aircraft in 1918. In that plane\u00a0the blue swastika was as\u00a0Count's personal fortune symbol.\u00a0This is how von Rosen's swastika became the symbol of Finnish Air Force. The Finnish\u00a0swastika was blue in color and was\u00a0always on horizontal plane and didn't have any\u00a0relation or connection with the Nazis swastika. Nazi Germany's red and black swastika was standing inverted.<\/p>\n<p>Kirsti Myllyl\u00e4 completed the intermediate 1933 in Saarij\u00e4rvi yhteiskoulu\u00a0and a nursing degree in 1941 Vaasa Nursing School in Sein\u00e4joki. She worked as a nurse after graduating both in\u00a0Helsinki and Stockholm, the Karolinska Sjukhuset.<\/p>\n<p>Paavo Myllyl\u00e4 married in 1965 with his second wife, Seija L\u00e4\u00e4peri-Myllyl\u00e4.
